How To Do It

Your little preschool ballerinas are not going to care about the technical part of ballet. They just want to have fun, and be ballerinas. Here is a simple lesson to go thru, don't forget the ballet music in the back ground.

Step 1:
Stand like a ballerina. Backs straight, chin up, arms like they are holding a big balloon, feet with heels together.

Step 2:
Move your arms. Make big circles with your arms infront of your body. Move your arms from side to side. Try different, silly movements.

Step 3:
Demi Plie'. Keeping your back straight, arms still holding a balloon, bend your knees slightly. Repeat eight times, ballerinas always do things in eights.

Step 4:
Releve'. This is going from demi plie' to up on your toes. As you go up on your toes, raise your arms over your head. Do this eight times.

Step 5:
Steps. Step wide to one side, then feet together. Repeat in the other direction. Doing this to the music. Repeat eight times.

Step 6:
Jumps. Ballerinas do not jump like elephants. So you try and get your preschool ballerinas to jump as quiet as they can. Repeat eight times.

Step 7:
Turns. Arms over head, up on toes, turn in one circle, taking little baby steps. Do this four times one direction and four in the other direction.

Step 8:
Improv. Having two or three different tempos of music. Have your ballerinas move slow to slow music and fast to faster music. This is always their favorite part.

Step 9:
Always at the end of class you curtsey to your class to say thank you, and they curtsey back.

Helpful Tip For Parents

If you know a young teen that is in ballet, they could teach your little preschool ballerinas, or show them some dancing. There are many videos, books and websites that have ballet basics if you want to get more technical than this lesson. With preschoolers, you don't want your lesson to last more than 15-20 mins, if you want to hold their attention.
