Peanut Penguin Party Craft Project

These cute little penguins are so simple to make your preschooler won't want to stop making them. Cute as an ornament or a magnet, they are sure to bring a smile to everyones face.

Materials You Will NeedBuy at Art.com

Peanuts(unsalted)
Black Acrylic Craft Paint
Orange Craft Foam
Paper Plates
White Acrylic Craft Paint
Small Orange Pompoms
Small Googly Eyes
Hot Glue Pot or Craft Glue Dots
Yarn or Ribbon (if making ornaments)
Magnet Strips (if making magnets)

How To Make It

Step 1: Before the party paint as many peanuts as you will need with the black paint. Let Dry. Cut 1 1/2" hearts from the orange craft foam.

Step 2: The day of the party. Place on one paper plate per child 2-black peanut "bodies", 2-orange craft foam "feet", 2-small orange pompom "noses", 4-googly eyes, 2- pieces of yarn or ribbon for an ornament or 2- strips of magnet for magnets.

Step 3: To make penguin. Dip your preschoolers thumb into the white paint, place thumb print on lower half of peanut. Let Dry.

Step 4: Glue the peanut to the point of the heart. Making the heart a platform for the peanut to stand on. Glue the orange pompom nose to the peanut just above the white thumb print. Glue on the eyes.

Step 5: Glue yarn or ribbon to the top, to make an ornament that hangs or a magent to the back for a magnet.

Helpful Tip For Parents

Hot glue is the preferred method for gluing, because it drys more stable. Using hot glue with preschoolers can be tricky. I suggest assigning an adult or two as the official glue appliers, then let the preschoolers attatch the pieces. If you get craft glue dots, get the smallest size with the highest level of tack. Glue dots are available at your local craft store, in the glue aisle.
